This thread was inspired by several unfortunate things that happen to my instruments. Like things breaking and such. So periodically, I will post problems I have, as they always happen to me, in this thread. Let's get started:

Ok first things first. I just broke a string on my acoustic (3rd string). This is the third time in the last month. Every time I tune it up, the f*cking thing breaks. WHAT THE HELL! I use Martin acoustic strings on an Ibanez dreadnought style acoustic. Any ideas why this is happening?

well the guitar as in drop c (don't ask why it was I was playing something metal on acoustic) and I was tuning it back to standard. Is it that big a difference in tuning that the stress is too much?

edit: and I would ask at UG, but I am banned. Those twat faces ban you for the stupidest reasons.

You should always tune your guitar back up slowly, as increasing the tension too much, too quickly, WILL break your strings.

It's due to fatigue in the strings. Just slowly tune it back up. Say tune all the strings up half a step at a time and repeat until you have got your desired tuning!
One of the advantages of horses that people sometimes point out, is that they very seldom explode. Almost never, in my experience, apart from that unfortunate occurence in the hot summer a few years ago.

yea I went extra slow this time and they still broke. The strings weren't even 2 weeks old. I may have still gone too fast though. God I'm impatient!

Ok another update to my "WHAT THE HELL" thread. I got new strings for my accoustic. It's fine. BUT if you recall, the other day I got a very nice epiphone Les Paul custom. Well this isn't that big of a deal, but the friggin strap screw is stripped. I put a strap on it, picked it up, and YOINK. Out it came. Luckily I have the reflexes of a ninja and caught the thing. Now I must sit and play!

the screw itself is stripped or the wood inside is stripped?

buy a new screw if the screw is stripped, if it's just the wood then jam the hole full of tooth picks and wood glue and rescrew it in that way. there's probably 20 plus threads on that on ug too you can check out for other more creative ideas haha.

Well it was the wood, but i solved the problem. I took the screw and nut from my other LP knockoff and screwed it in there. It is slightly bigger, so it's nice and secure now.
