singing

Postby pringa on Thu Dec 06, 2007 1:53 pm

ive got a desire to be able to sing, at least well enough to sing in a band or something (while playing rhythm guitar)
not anything particularly too spectacular, just someone who gets the job done well sort of like alex kapranos from franz ferdinand.

maybe sort of something along the lines of trent renzor, josh homme,

i dont know anything about music theory or anything so i dont know about singing in different keys or whatever.

anyone got any ideas on how to start off? cause i have no idea.

Yea that looks like a good place to look. I've seen magazines that have articles on it, like one that said for metal screaming, put a pencile in your mouth and bite down. Than scream. I didn't see what it did but w/e.

Put an ear plug in one of your ears. This will let your hear your own voice more clearly (when singing along to CDs or whatever), helping you to get the right pitch.

This is what I do, and it does help. Also, just sing the stuff you want to sing as often as you can!

And don't worry about it, you probably aren't as bad as you might think you are!
One of the advantages of horses that people sometimes point out, is that they very seldom explode. Almost never, in my experience, apart from that unfortunate occurence in the hot summer a few years ago.

lmao that's exactly what I do. I found it funny that I can sing along to almost any song and sound decent, but the second I take the headphones off, ughhhh.

Breathing. Always make sure you take as deep a breath as possible.

This allows you to keep a lot of power in your voice, and makes the whole ordeal much easier, as you have a good supply of oxygen!

No worries.

Don't force it too hard either, or you'll end up losing and possibly damaging your voice.
