So I went and picked up a Thunderbird today, I love it! The neck sinking that I heard about isn't so bad.

sersly tho, i've really been playing for 4 or 5 months on borrowed basses, and that's with a background in guitar, and i know all my theory and such, and i can slap/pop at a fairly decent speed. so i think i can handle a 5. if nothing else, i can just ignore the 5th string for a while till i get used to it. i just don't wanna have to go spend MORE money later to get a 5 string, cuz i know for sure i'll want a 5 string eventually.

5 Strings FTW!

How much are you looking to spend? 'Cos I can personally recommend the Ibanez BTB405QM, which weighs in at around $600.

Well worth it though!

How's the new Thunderbird then Aqua? Broke her in yet?
One of the advantages of horses that people sometimes point out, is that they very seldom explode. Almost never, in my experience, apart from that unfortunate occurence in the hot summer a few years ago.

mm yes i do like ibanez's alot, always seem to be good for the money...i borrowed a friends cheap ibanez starter bass one time...and i actually really liked it...but is that 600 usd? if not then i def can't afford it, the dollar is pretty weak right now haha.
in any case, i'm really looking to spend around 400 usd. i'm worried i may have to go 4 strings to keep from losing too much quality in a 5 string at that price, although i found a 5 string dean w/ set neck and mahogony body w/ emg's that i really liked in that price range, but then it was sold and i was sad :(
i may start looking at used stuff soon.

back on track, again,

Yeah it was USD.

I got mine several years ago for about £400 (approx 800-850 USD) and that makes me sad.

However.....

I've played it a lot so far, but it's too cold to go outside to the garage and plug it into my big amp. :(

It sounds really good on my practice amp, which usually sounds like crap. My big amp always sounds amazing.
