Australian Election 2007

Postby pringa on Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:42 am

what do you guys think of the australian election this year?
while i cant quite vote (18 next April) i dont like either howard or rudd, i guess if i had to vote it would be a question of who i hate more.

i think the greens are working out their preferences with labor. if i wouldve voted greens probably but if their working out their preferences with labor i would be basically supporting labor which ive now decided i dislike more than the coalition.

so basically its good im not voting because i wouldnt know who to vote for and ive now come to the conclusion that its time to...

make my own political party :)

The Pringa Party?

That'd get my vote! But unfortunately I'm not Australian! However, from what I understand, Rudd seems to be the "lesser of two evils", considering your standpoint

it just means that everything gonna be more expensive in three years time (especially guitar gear) :P and we'll have a new prime minister.

actually seriously, hopefully it doesn't really mean anything because i can only see them taking Australia backwards. hopefully they prove me wrong

labor won at least 20 seats back (they only needed 16), which means that kevin rudd is our new prime minister.

well i dont think its good that labor won, its not like john howard (liberal party) did anything wrong.

rudd only won because howards been in for so long (11 years), australia just wanted change for the sake of change. now australia could be screwed in three years time.

well labors economic management in the past has been quite shocking, we don't really know actually much about Rudd and his policies haven't been properly tested, because he's basically won the election based on his style, and labor are influenced too much by the unions.

theres the possibility (which i hope) that rudd isnt as bad as i thought, and he does a reasonable job.

but if this experiment (change for the sake of change) doesnt work out it will be a lot harder to live the lifestyle we do currently (especially if the interest rates do go significantly up). and if the worst does happen it will effect people around my age the most because we wont be able to afford to move out of home.

that sucks.

house prices will always be on the rise here, but if labors in theres a chance they will be much higher than they need to be, and if we have significantly higher interest rates (which i fear) the younger generations will be unable to afford their own house.

what ive gathered, just from people discussing who they voted for is it seems that younger voters seem to have voted more for liberal, while older voters seem to have gone labor (where they should now better because they've had to live through the ridiculously high interests under labor in the past!)

With the house prices as high as they are over here at the moment, more and more young ppl are leaving the country rather than have to live with their parents until they'r 30! It really sucks,I myself intend to leave pretty soon, only problem is that this rise in prices seems to be happening pretty much everywhere at the moment and I dont want to end up not still being able to afford a home 7 or 8 years from now.

House prices are on the rise everywhere, it's a result of economic expansion.

It does suck though, I've been on the look out for a house, but I couldn't really afford anything on my own.....

So me and my mate are getting a joint mortgage (up to a maximum of £115,000 ($236,800 US)).

Can get a three bedroomed terraceed house in an okay area for that! Just gotta wait 'til he gets back from Afghanistan...
